Lance's (Treigh's) Miracle-Ear Foundation Story

Published on Nov, 05, 2024

At just eight years old, Treigh M. from Lancaster, Ohio, was really struggling academically. He felt uncomfortable having to sit at the very front of the class to try and hear his teachers. “He failed two of his hearing tests in school and then he also failed two of his hearing tests by his doctor,” Treigh’s mother, Shalynn said. “I knew he was hard of hearing, but I didn’t know it was that hard of hearing. It took me by surprise.”

Tests revealed that Treigh has moderate to severe hearing loss due to inner ear nerve damage. “Before I knew the whole situation, I would get frustrated thinking he was just ignoring me, but that wasn’t the case at all. He just really could not hear me," she added.

Hearing Care Professional Alexia Malone, Treigh, and his mother, Shalynn.

Shalynn was unable to afford the care Treigh needed, so she applied through the Miracle-Ear Foundation® to receive no-cost hearing aids for him. He was quickly approved for the Gift of Sound™ and fit with quality, life-changing hearing aids. He says he can, “feel like a normal kid again” and is flourishing in the classroom. They're both incredibly grateful for the Gift of Sound and for the care provided by the Miracle-Ear Foundation and Alexia. Treigh even refers to Alexia as the nice lady that helps him hear.
